Turn your kitchen into a science lab with this KOOL-AID capillary action experiment! Use celery, Napa cabbage and KOOL-AID Unsweetened Drink Mix to learn about liquid flow with a simple and educational capillary action experiment.
What you need
- 5 clear glasses or cups
- Water
- 5 env. (0.13 oz. to 0.23 oz. each) KOOL-AID Unsweetened Drink Mix, assorted colors
- 5 celery stalks
- 5 Napa cabbage leaves
Make it
- Place about 1-1.5 cups of water in glasses or cups.
- Mix in envelope of KOOL-AID per glass or cup.
- Place a celery stick and a leaf of Napa cabbage in the glass or cup.
- Check back in an hour or two and see how things look.
Questions to ask your kiddos
Did the color migrate up the celery sticks? Do you see small colored dots? These are the top end of the capillaries and brought colored KOOL-AID up the stalk of celery. Did the Napa cabbage start to change color? Some colors migrate better than others -red in particular.
