2 tsp. orange zest

8 cardamom pods, crushed

1-3/4 cups sugar, divided

2 Tbsp. Maxwell House Instant Coffee Original Roast, divided

1 Tbsp. light corn syrup

1 pkg. (250 g) Philadelphia Brick Cream Cheese, cubed, softened

Step 1
Heat oven to 350°F. Step 2
Cook milk, orange zest, cardamom, 3/4 cup sugar and 1 Tbsp. coffee in saucepan 5 to 7 min. or until sugar is dissolved, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Reserve for later use. Step 3
Meanwhile, cook water, corn syrup and remaining sugar in separate saucepan on medium heat 15 to 20 min. or until mixture is a light amber colour, gently swirling pan every few minutes. (Do not stir.) Turn off heat. Add remaining coffee; stir until dissolved. Pour into 9-inch round pan; swirl to evenly coat bottom of pan with sugar mixture. Cool slightly. Step 4
Pour reserved milk mixture through fine-mesh strainer into blender or food processor container. Add cream cheese; blend until smooth. Add eggs; blend well. Carefully pour over syrup in pan. Step 5
Place filled 9-inch pan in larger pan, then place on middle rack in oven. Add enough water to larger pan to come halfway up side of 9-inch pan. Step 6
Bake 48 to 57 min. or until knife inserted near centre comes out clean. Remove flan from water bath; cool completely. Step 7
Refrigerate flan 4 hours. When ready to serve, place flan pan in larger pan filled with hot tap water. Let stand 2 min. Run knife around edge of pan to loosen flan; unmold onto plate. Kraft Kitchen Tips!
How to Soften Caramelized Sugar Remaining in Pan
To soften any caramelized sugar remaining in bottom of pan after the flan is unmolded, dip pan in hot water to soften the sugar before spooning over the flan.
How to Crush the Cardamom Pods
Use a meat tenderizer or bottom of a heavy saucepan to crush the cardamom pods.
Special Extra
Strips of fresh orange peel make the perfect garnish for this dessert. Use a sharp knife to cut thick pieces of peel from the orange. Discard the peeled orange or reserve for another use. Twist the orange peel pieces, then place on top of dessert.
Note
This show-stopping flan can be refrigerated up to 24 hours. When ready to serve, let flan stand in larger pan of hot water 4 to 5 min. before unmolding as directed.
