Fire up the barbecue and grill up a butterflied chicken. Cola, BBQ sauce and hot pepper sauce turn a grilled whole chicken into a sweet and tangy dish the whole family will love.

How do I make it ?
Select All
Step 1
Heat barbecue for indirect grilling: Light one side of barbecue, leaving other side unlit. Close lid; heat barbecue to 350ºF.
Step 2
Cook cola and barbecue sauce in saucepan on medium heat 10 min., stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in hot sauce. Reserve 3/4 cup sauce to serve with the grilled chicken.
Step 3
Cut out back bone of chicken carefully with kitchen shears or sharp knife. Place chicken, skin-side up, on work surface; press firmly onto chicken to flatten.
Step 4
Place chicken, breast-side down, on barbecue grate over lit area. Grill 15 min.; turn and place over unlit area. Cover; grill 25 to 30 min. or until chicken is done (170ºF), turning occasionally and brushing with remaining barbecue mixture for the last 15 min. Remove from barbecue. Let stand 15 min. before cutting into pieces. Serve with reserved sauce.
Kraft Kitchen Tips!
How to Spatchcock (or Butterfly) a Chicken
For best results, dry chicken completely before cutting so it is not slippery. Place chicken, breast-side down, on cutting board. Cut along one side of the backbone, then cut along the other side of the bone to remove it. Place chicken, skin-side up, and press down firmly to flatten.
Wrap the tips of the chicken wings with foil to prevent them from burning. Remove the foil for the last 10 min. of the grilling time.
