How do I make it ?
Select All
Step 1
Combine flour, baking soda and spices. Beat butter and brown sugar in large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Add dry pudding mix, orange zest and egg; beat 2 min. Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition. Divide dough into thirds; roll each into ball. Wrap individually in plastic wrap; flatten into disk. Refrigerate 30 min.
Step 2
Heat oven to 350°F. Roll out each disk into 1/4-inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Use 3- to 3-1/2-inch holiday cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes, rerolling trimmings as necessary. Place, 2 inches apart, on baking sheets. Use small knife to cut 1/4-inch-wide notch from base to centre of each cutout; remove and discard notch.
Step 3
Bake 9 to 12 min. or just until centres are firm to the touch. Cool on baking sheets 3 min. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
Step 4
Mix icing sugar and water until blended. Use to decorate cookies as desired.
Kraft Kitchen Tips!
Cooking Know-How
If the shapes of the dough cutouts get distorted after removing the notches, use your hands to gently reshape the cutouts to resemble the original shapes. Also if the rims of the mugs are thick, you will need to cut wider notches out of the dough shapes so the cutouts will easily fit over the rims of the filled mugs.
Make Ahead
These delicious cookies can be prepared ahead of time. Store in airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week, or in freezer-weight container up to 1 month. If frozen, thaw cookies at room temperature before decorating with the icing.
Fun Idea
Decorate cookies with cinnamon red hot candies and coloured sprinkles to resemble snowmen or with coloured sprinkles to resemble candy canes.
Size Wise
After you have enjoyed a serving of this treat, freeze remaining cookies for a treat to be enjoyed or shared at another time.
Important Note
If using candy cane-shaped cookie cutters, do not cut notches from the cutouts before baking the cookies. Instead hang the cookies over the rims of the mugs to serve.
How to Prevent Lumps in the Icing
If the icing sugar has lumps in it, sift it before measuring it out to mix with the water.
The dough can be refrigerated up to 1 hour before rolling out and using as directed.
