4 Italian sausage links, cut in half
1 Tbsp. oil
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped sweet red peppers
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 carton (900 mL) 25%-less-sodium chicken broth
1 jar (650 mL) Classico Riserva Roasted Garlic Pasta Sauce
1-1/2 cups dry green lentils, uncooked
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/4 tsp. ground cumin
4 cups tightly packed chopped stemmed kale

Step 1
Cook sausage in large saucepan on medium-high heat 2 to 3 min. on each side or until each piece is golden brown on both sides. Transfer sausage to plate, reserving drippings in pan.
Step 2
Add oil, onions and sweet peppers to reserved drippings; cook 6 min. or until vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring frequently. Add garlic; cook and stir 2 min. Add chicken broth, pasta sauce, lentils and dry seasonings; mix well. Bring to boil, stirring frequently.
Step 3
Return sausage to pan; stir. Cover; simmer on medium-low heat 40 min. or until lentils are tender and sausage is done, stirring occasionally. Stir in kale; cook 3 min. or until tender, stirring occasionally.

Variation
Remove and discard casings from sausage before crumbling sausage into saucepan and cooking until evenly browned, stirring frequently. Remove sausage from pan with slotted spoon; drain sausage on paper towels. Add oil, onions and sweet peppers to reserved drippings in pan, then continue as directed.
