1/2 cup water
1-3/4 cups sugar, divided
1-2/3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
3 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Step 1
Heat oven to 350°F.
Step 2
Microwave chocolate, water and 1/2 cup sugar in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min. or until chocolate is almost completely melted, stirring after 1 min. Stir until completely melted. Cool.
Step 3
Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Beat butter and remaining sugar in large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each until blended. Beat in flour mixture alternately with milk. Add chocolate mixture and vanilla; mix well. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round pans.
Step 4
Bake 30 to 35 min. or until toothpick inserted in centres comes out clean. Cool cakes in pans 10 min.; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
Step 5
Prepare Easy Chocolate Frosting. Stack cake layers on serving plate, filling and frosting layers, and top and side of cake with prepared frosting.

Cook chocolate and water in medium saucepan over very low heat just until chocolate is melted, stirring constantly. Add 1/2 cup sugar; cook 2 min., stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm. Continue as directed.
